Immortal Depression is the name used by the Eden files for a psychological condition attributed to the Precursors. According to the archive, once disease, scarcity, pressure from death, and much of the unknown had been removed by technology, some minds entered a prolonged existential void because they lacked limits, goals, and surprise.
Operation and Significance
This is not a universally validated clinical disease model of the current civilization. It is an archival concept important for understanding the claimed motivation behind the Eden Protocol. Its philosophical significance lies in reversing a familiar question: if technology’s long-term purpose is to remove pain and uncertainty, can life continue to generate meaning when both approach zero?
