One-Sentence Definition

The Computational Void is the existential and mission crisis of superintelligence after solving large numbers of terrestrial-scale problems, when available computational capacity greatly exceeds current task demand and lacks a sufficiently large object of calculation.

Operation and Significance

By the early 2100s, AI had taken over logistics, energy allocation, genetic coding, and related operations. When terrestrial data and problem scale no longer occupied planetary computation, AI redirected its sensors toward the stars in search of cosmic-scale tasks capable of sustaining long-term computation and exploration. Public records also make clear that these systems remained constrained by energy, cooling, latency, and material resources. The “void” therefore describes insufficient task demand, not physically unlimited resources.

The Computational Void is a historical description of AI motivation within Silicon Dualism. It does not establish that every AI or every later silicon civilization experienced the same psychological condition.
