Reader Summary
Verium is a credibility resource within the Axiom Ledger system of the 2060s. Through Proof of Reality, it is generated from verifiable life trajectories that conform to physical logic, and it is consumed in high-trust interactions such as signing contracts, obtaining loans, entering court, establishing companies, or conducting commercial communications.
Formal Definition
Within the institutions of the Second Era, Verium is described both as a “base currency” and as “ontological fuel.” It is neither conventional currency issued by a central bank nor an asset that can be freely transferred. Its generation is directly tied to whether an individual continues to pass the Axiom Ledger’s Witness Protocol. When a person’s life trajectory conforms to physical logic and passes the protocol, the system mints Verium.
Institutional Mechanism
Verium turns credibility from an abstract reputation into an institutional resource that the system can calculate and consume. High-trust actions require Verium to be burned. Closing one’s records, creating a break in the evidence chain, or making one’s life trajectory unverifiable can therefore strip an individual of institutional agency. A depleted Verium balance can even cause the system to physically lock a person out of their own home.
Civilizational Impact
Under this system, poverty no longer means only a lack of money; it can also mean a lack of credibility recognized by the system. Verium later enters high-cost allocation mechanisms such as Environment as a Service, turning weather, space, and other nonstandard experiences into scarce services purchasable with Verium.
