Von Neumann Mining Drones are automated mining machines capable of using environmental matter to reproduce and multiply, allowing planetary-scale and orbital-scale resource extraction through exponential expansion.
Operation and Significance
Around 2400, hundreds of millions of mining drones were sent into Saturnian orbit during Operation Locust Crossing. Saturn’s rings supplied water, hydrogen, oxygen, shielding material, and reaction mass, while metals were imported from asteroids, moon cores, and Mercury’s mining zones. Together these material flows supported construction of the Circum-Jovian Accelerator.
