Mortals: High-entropy humans locked inside carbon bodies.

The lower classes still possessed biological bodies and never received continuity upload.
Beginning in 2119, they entered Tittytainment at scale, initially through surface life-support pods. Only in the 2150s were large populations transferred into mantle chambers.
The system preserved them as protected biological samples, sources of hardware randomness, emotional and creative data, and legacy populations that law prohibited from deleting.
This was exact thermodynamic class separation:
A minority became gods in servers.
The majority were reduced to consumable samples, data, and randomness used to keep the system operating.
