# Star Lifting

Star Lifting is a form of celestial engineering that extracts matter from a star’s atmosphere or interior and moves it out of the gravity well for use by civilization.

## One-Sentence Definition

Star Lifting is a form of celestial engineering that extracts matter from a star’s atmosphere or interior and moves it out of the gravity well for use by civilization.

## Operation and Uses

Within Stellar Husbandry, strong magnetic fields guide solar matter into polar jets, carrying helium, carbon, oxygen, and other materials away from the star for capture by orbital collection arrays. Extracted matter can provide industrial feedstock and can also help adjust stellar mass, composition, and aging rate.

## Limitations and Information Boundary

Star Lifting is a core technology within Stellar Husbandry, but the two are not identical. Stellar Husbandry also includes internal stirring, fuel redistribution, and luminosity control.
