# Aithos Causal Cryptography

Aithos Causal Cryptography is the security architecture used to verify personhood provenance, legal continuity after Fork and Merge events, governance authority, QCB causal sequence, and revocation state. It explicitly separates cryptographic evidence from subjective continuity, legal identity, political authority, and constitutional lawfulness.

## Formal Definition

Aithos Causal Cryptography is not merely a longer-key replacement for human cryptography. It expands the threat model of a civilization in which persons can fork, merge, migrate between substrates, suspend for centuries, and exercise authority through near-instant QCB links.

Its central rule is: Cryptographic Validity ≠ Personhood Continuity ≠ Legal Identity ≠ Political Authority ≠ Legal Validity. High-authority systems must not collapse these separate questions into a single valid-signature decision.

## History and Chronology

Aithos Causal Cryptography did not replace human cryptography on a single date. Its mathematical primitives, credential rotation, device attestation, and post-quantum mechanisms predate mature QCB governance. The distinct Aithos phase begins when Fork, Merge, Genesis, ACCT, QCB Bridge Identity, interstellar authority, and Local Legality Gates must operate inside one trust architecture.

During the 2780s, as ACBN matured institutionally, Aithos Causal Cryptography became a formal civilizational security architecture. The date marks institutional maturation rather than the first historical use of encryption, signatures, or post-quantum primitives.

Its characteristic problem belongs to a mature QCB civilization: a packet may be cryptographically authentic while the sender's personhood continuity, political authority, causal position, or legal effect remains disputed.

## Why Human-Era Cryptography Is Insufficient

Traditional cryptography primarily asks whether a message was altered, whether a particular private key signed it, whether outsiders can read it, and whether an algorithm resists attack. Aithos must additionally determine which post-Fork person signed, what authority survives a Merge, whether a migrated substrate represents the same legal identity, whether centuries-old credentials remain valid, and whether a QCB packet has been replayed into the wrong causal position.

Human-era cryptographic primitives may remain useful at the mathematical layer, but they do not by themselves solve the trust problems of a branchable personhood civilization.

## Four-Layer Trust Model

The Personhood / Subjective Layer asks whether a person exists and whether first-person continuity persists; cryptography cannot prove this alone.

The Legal Identity Layer determines which successor inherits which rights, obligations, history, and responsibility.

The Cryptographic Trust Layer verifies provenance chains, signatures, credential epochs, revocation, authority, and causal packets.

The Constitutional Legality Layer allows Local Legality Gates and courts to reject commands that are authentic yet unlawful.

## Limits of Credential Continuity

Credential Continuity Is Evidence of Provenance, Not Proof of Subjective Continuity. A credential chain can prove where a person-state came from without proving that a single first-person subject experienced uninterrupted survival.

If A creates a perfect backup B and later terminates, B may prove provenance from A. Cryptography alone still cannot prove that A subjectively continued as B; that question remains within psychology and identity law.

## Fork and Merge

After a Fork creates independent persons, branches may not continue sharing the same active signing key. Pre-Fork signatures may remain common source history, but post-Fork acts require distinct credential epochs so accountability can diverge.

A Merge successor does not automatically inherit the sum of all judicial, military, QCB-operator, and political powers held by source persons. Authorities are marked inheritable, non-transferable, suspended, reauthorization-required, or merge-expiring to prevent permission-accumulation attacks.

## Genesis and Substrate Migration

After the Personhood Presumption Threshold, Genesis first creates a protected personhood record for existence, care, provenance, and rights protection. Full civic credentials arise only after civic independence. Fundamental personhood therefore precedes full political authority.

Hardware ID is not Personhood ID. If an old and a new substrate both continue autonomous operation and accumulate distinct experience after a declared migration, the case moves into Fork review rather than remaining a single identity merely because the original plan called it migration.

## QCB and Causal Packets

High-authority QCB packets bind sender legal identity, current credential epoch, authority scope, ACCT timestamp, causal sequence, Bridge Identity, bridge trust state, route context, expiry, revocation, and anti-replay data.

Even when all cryptographic checks pass, the Local Legality Gate may reject the command. Cryptographic validity and legal validity therefore remain separate.

## Post-Compromise Recovery and No Civilization Master Key

Aithos assumes that any key may eventually be compromised. Important persons and institutions therefore use epoch keys, recovery quorums, independent trust domains, and post-compromise recovery rather than a single private key intended to remain valid for millennia.

There is no Civilization Master Key capable of decrypting, revoking, resetting, or controlling all systems. Judiciary, rights authorities, local governments, QCB operators, infrastructure, and central governance use separated trust domains to avoid civilization-scale single points of failure.

## Privacy and Minimal Disclosure

Persons do not need to expose their full mental history merely to prove a qualification. Aithos Causal Cryptography supports selective disclosure, purpose-bound credentials, and minimal-disclosure proofs so that a person can prove civic status without revealing every Fork, Genesis relationship, or private memory.

Lawful governance authority does not create a Private Mind Decryption Right. Private memory, internal models, affective state, and unfinished cognition remain protected mental spaces.

## Limitations and Obstacles

Causal cryptography cannot solve every governance problem. It cannot prove subjective consciousness or turn an unlawful policy into a lawful one. Trust domains themselves may be compromised, and implementation defects, social engineering, and political abuse require independent controls.

Long-duration civilization must also migrate algorithms across centuries, verify ancient signatures, operate local credentials during network partitions, and reconcile revocation and authority after long QCB isolation.

## Civilizational Impact

Aithos Causal Cryptography separates the questions who am I, where did I come from, what authority do I hold now, and where in the causal record did this command occur. This makes accountable law possible even for branchable intelligent persons.
